As the legend goes Richard Hook was born in the storeroom of a galleon during a ferocious storm on the high seas at the beginning of the XVII century.

Some old writings tell, “Only seconds after having been born, it was very obvious that the baby was an innate pirate. Upon taking notice of the storm the baby exited the storeroom and with the

umbilical cord still attached to him, he skillfully climbed up the mast.  Then he grabbed his own umbilical cord and made a perfect sailor’s knot to secure the rope of a sail that had fallen.

Thus started the reputation of the most daring sailor ever known…

As the years went by the heroics of the young Captain Hook multiplied and spread throughout The Seven Seas. Until one day following a ferocious battle against some pirates of the Caribbean, no one heard from him again.

The assault, which resulted in the sinking of his beloved Perla Negra, had left him devastated…

But the great Captain Hook would manage to recover from this incident as his innate pirate–blood yearned for the sea. After several years spent in seclusion in  Playas del Coco, he decided that it was time to reclaim his place on the sea.

But if Hook was to return to the ocean, the Perla Negra should also return,” he said to himself.

It didn’t matter to him that his ship had been sunk for over a century.  The decision had been made.

He would rebuild it.

After a long construction process, the Perla Negra is finally back–this time in the Pacific waters of Costa Rica.

Something is different however.  The Perla Negra is the same but Captain Hook has changed.  Even though he still boasts that famous pirate smile, his corsair spirit is gone.

So many years in Costa Rica transformed him into the first pura vida pirate ever known.

Upon returning to sea Hook no longer wanted hardship or conflict. He wanted fun and camaraderie. This became his new mission!

These days his ship only shoots cannons to let the world know that the party on board the Perla Negra is burning hot.

Captain Richard Hook is now a happy and hospitable pirate, determined to make the Perla Negra the most fun ship on The Seven Seas…
