It was a Sunday like any other. We were figuring out what to do when our daughter suggested zip lining. We agreed to the idea.

After picking up some friends, we were on our way…

The road from Playas del Coco was an adventure in itself, crossing brooks and sighting several small wild animals on the way.  In less than 30 minutes we arrived at Congo Trail Canopy Tour, ready to climb to great heights…

The outing was a lot of fun and not difficult at all.  The trails were in excellent condition and took us to the starting point of an aerial adventure. The canopy included 11 cables of 100 to 1300 feet in length all suspended off the ground at a height between 20 and 130 feet.

After leaving the first platform and swinging into a realm of century old trees, we saw several species of birds and were able to hear the howling of monkeys not very far from us.

It only got better as we progressed and at the end of our flight on the 7thcable a surprise was waiting for us. The sound of the monkeys became much more pronounced and it became clear that the animals were at quite a close distance.    It was then we discovered that the monkeys were in fact on the very same tree our zip line had just led us to.  As we gazed up, there they were, comfortably settled just a few meters above our heads…

While everyone took pictures, my 6-year-old daughter took advantage of the moment to practice her multilingual abilities by carrying out a fluent conversation in “monkey language” with our temporary neighbors.

During the remainder of the trip we enjoyed flying head first, on our backs or “Superman style”, although to tell you the truth this last option was “not very comfortable” on our hips.

Once the tour was completed, an even bigger surprise still awaited.  The Congo Trail has their own on-sitezoo, the “Congo Park”, which allowed us Leftto come into even closer contact with a variety of animals.

This closer…
